By the shop’s own telling, Guadalupe Pocadiz started with a small storefront on Penn Avenue, moved the business into the first floor of her house on Kutztown Road in 2004, and by 2009 had moved out of the house entirely because the gowns had taken over the rest of it. That account is the most useful thing to know about Pocadiz before you go: it is a converted home, not a suite in a shopping center, and appointments are required rather than suggested.
The address reads Reading, PA 19605, which is what the post office wants. The store itself gives its town as Laureldale — the small borough that Muhlenberg Township wraps entirely around, just north of the Reading city line in Berks County. Kutztown Road is one of the two main streets through the borough, crossing Elizabeth Avenue near the middle of town; U.S. 222 Business is the closest numbered route if you are coming from farther out.
Muhlenberg High School sits at 400 Sharp Avenue, about a third of a mile from the front door in a straight line. That is roughly 1,100 students in grades 10 through 12 who could walk to a prom dress. The city of Reading begins a few minutes south, which puts the Reading School District’s much larger student body inside the same short drive.
Prom and quinceañera are the same season here
Reading is a majority-Hispanic city, and Puerto Ricans are the largest group in it — close to 30,000 people, about 46 percent of the city’s Hispanic population in recent Census estimates, with a substantial Dominican and Mexican presence as well. For a formalwear shop in this market, quinceañera work is not a sideline; Pocadiz gives it its own section of the business alongside prom, bridal, and tuxedos, and the store lists first communions, baptisms, first birthdays, and pageants on top of that.
Practically, that means a fifteenth-birthday gown and a junior prom dress get bought in the same building, sometimes in the same month, by the same families. It also means the racks are not organized around a single event.

Alterations are the point, not an add-on
The owner came to retail from sewing — the store describes about 40 years of experience as a seamstress behind the business. Alterations are done in house, and the shop is direct about how it orders: it measures bust, waist, and hip separately and generally orders to the largest of the three, then takes the gown in from there. If you have ever been sent to a third-party tailor two towns over after buying a dress, that is the difference.
