Weirton is the only community in the United States that sits inside one state while its city limits touch two others. It runs from the Ohio border at the river to the Pennsylvania border on the east, across a stretch of West Virginia’s northern panhandle about five miles wide. US 22 crosses the entire state there in roughly six miles, from the Veterans Memorial Bridge at Steubenville to the Pennsylvania line. J.Jones Evening Wear sits on that road, at 243 Three Springs Drive, in the Three Springs Crossing plaza off the Three Springs Drive exit.
That geography is most of the story. A junior from Steubenville or Toronto crosses one bridge. Weir High, whose campus is on Red Rider Road a couple of miles away, is closer than most people’s grocery store. Madonna, the Catholic school on Michael Way, is about the same. Brooke County students come up WV 2 or US 22 from Wellsburg and Follansbee; Oak Glen students come down from New Cumberland; Washington County, Pennsylvania families drive west on the same highway they would take to the airport.
What the store actually is
Jill Jones ran a formalwear store in Pittsburgh before moving the business to Weirton in the late 2000s. In 2015 she moved it to a much larger space on Main Street, roughly eight times the size of the previous shop, with more than half the new floor given to bridal and tuxedos. The Three Springs Drive location had its grand opening on October 13, 2020, with the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce on hand.
The store calls itself the area’s largest prom superstore and says it keeps more than 1,500 gowns in stock in sizes 000 through 34. Verified brand authorizations here include Jovani, La Femme, Alyce Paris, Ava Presley, Jasz and Johnathan Kayne. The shop also does bridal, bridesmaids, mothers, and menswear, including prom tuxedos.
Pageant work is a real part of the calendar rather than a sideline. The staff page lists a pageant consultant who competed as Miss West Virginia United States 2008 and Mrs. West Virginia American 2022, and the store keeps wardrobe down to tiny miss divisions. Pageant fittings are by private appointment.
Weirton or Mt. Lebanon
In December 2025 J.Jones opened a second store at 660 Washington Road in Uptown Mt. Lebanon, in Pittsburgh’s South Hills. If you are weighing the drive, the two are not interchangeable.

Planning the trip
Hours are Tuesday and Wednesday noon to 6, Thursday noon to 7, Friday 11 to 4, and Saturday 11 to 3. Closed Sunday and Monday. Prom and homecoming shopping is walk-in. Appointments are required for bridal, mothers, bridesmaids and tuxedo parties.
Local proms land in April and early May — Weir High’s fell on an April weekend in 2026, per the Weirton Daily Times — so the floor is busiest from January through March. The plaza has an Aldi next door and the Top of West Virginia visitors bureau office in the same building at 243, and the Walmart Supercenter is on the same corridor, which makes shoes and alterations drop-offs an easy add to the same trip.
