Take I-70 to Exit 5, the Elm Grove/Triadelphia ramp, go a tenth of a mile west on National Road, then turn down Kruger Street. The three-story 1906 school building at 144 Kruger holds the Kruger Street Toy & Train Museum. Suzanne’s Fashion and Bridal is at 136, on that same short block, which is how most people around here end up describing where it is. Elm Grove sits about five miles up the National Road corridor from downtown Wheeling, in the Northern Panhandle.
This is a bridal shop first. The store describes itself as full-service for bridal parties, mothers of the bride and groom, communion and baptismal dresses, and special occasion — with prom and homecoming as one season inside a year that also runs on weddings. That matters for what the racks look like in February: this is not a warehouse of a thousand prom gowns, it is a working salon that carries prom.
The prom labels that check out on the brands’ own retailer locators are Jovani, Ellie Wilde, Dave & Johnny and Colette. The shop’s own site also lists Maggie Sottero for bridal, shoes from Benjamin Walk, and Rondinelli tuxedo rentals; Jim’s Formal Wear lists the Kruger Street address as a rental location as well, so a date’s tux can be handled on the same trip as the dress.
Plan around the hours, not the other way around
The posted schedule is closed Sunday and Monday, Tuesday noon to 5, Wednesday through Friday 10 to 5, and Saturday 10 to 3 by appointment. That is the whole week. If Saturday is the only day a parent can drive in, call (304) 242-3500 first — the store says appointments are recommended to secure availability, and Saturday is explicitly appointment-based. A teenager who wants to browse three shops in one afternoon should build the day around this one, because it has the narrowest window.
Whose prom this is
Wheeling Park High School is the only public high school in Ohio County, formed in 1976 out of the old Wheeling, Triadelphia and Warwood high schools. One county, one public prom, which raises the odds of walking into the same dress somebody else bought. Wheeling Park held its 2025 prom at the White Palace in Wheeling Park, a couple of miles back up National Road from the store, with a 5:30 walk-in; Wheeling Central Catholic used the same ballroom for its prom that spring. Linsly is in Wheeling too. Down the river in Marshall County, John Marshall in Glen Dale is about ten minutes south, and Brooke draws from Wellsburg to the north.
Across the bridges, the Ohio side sends its own share of the traffic — Martins Ferry, Bellaire, Shadyside, St. Clairsville. For most of those towns, Kruger Street is a shorter trip than anything in their own county.
What the alternatives cost you
Ellie Wilde’s locator puts the next nearest stockist in Washington, Pennsylvania, straight up I-70, then Pittsburgh’s South Hills and Morgantown after that. Any of those is a half-day round trip with a highway drive on each end. The Ohio Valley Mall west on I-70 in St. Clairsville is the other local option, but it is department-store racks rather than designer prom lines.
The shop says on its own site that it has served the area for more than 70 years; older business listings say 68. Take the exact number with a grain of salt, but the length of time it has been on that block is not in dispute around Wheeling.
