The shop is not where it used to be. Once Upon a Story spent years at 13 N. Main Street in downtown Sheridan, and in March 2026 it moved north up the same street to 250 N. Main. The Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce held an Ambassadors’ ribbon cutting at the new address on Friday, March 27, and the store ran a grand reopening that Friday and the Saturday after. Directory listings across the internet — including one line still sitting on the boutique’s own site — have not all caught up, so if you have an old address written down, use the newer one. Both are on the same downtown stretch of Main in northern Wyoming’s Sheridan County.
What they carry for prom
Five prom labels list this store on their official retailer locators: Clarisse, Colette, Faviana, Jessica Angel and Johnathan Kayne. The shop’s own prom vendor page names those plus Jadore Evening, Sophia Thomas and Sydney’s Closet.
The buying model is worth understanding before you drive in. Owner Dawn Brehmer’s site says what is on the floor is a starting point — you can look through the designers’ own catalogs, then place the order through the store. That means lead time matters. It also means the size question is handled differently here than at a mall rack: the store advertises styles in sizes 0 through 32, and Sydney’s Closet on the vendor list is a plus-size specialist.
Alterations are in-house and free with an in-store dress or suit purchase, which is not nothing when the nearest tailor may be the same person who sold you the gown. Tuxedos and suits are available to rent or buy, through Jim’s Formal Wear. A couple can be fitted in one stop.
The four proms this store serves
Sheridan County spreads its dances out. Sheridan High School anchors School District 2 in town. District 1, based in Ranchester, sends students from Big Horn High School and Tongue River High School in Dayton, both on four-day weeks. Out east, Arvada-Clearmont High School in District 3 covers Arvada, Clearmont and Ucross and is among the smallest districts in the state.
They do not go on the same night. When The Sheridan Press tracked the 2021 season, Arvada-Clearmont went first — among the earliest proms in Wyoming that year — Big Horn followed on April 10, Tongue River on May 1 and Sheridan High on May 8. A month of staggered Saturdays is the local pattern, and it is the reason one downtown shop can dress the whole county without every family arriving the same week.
The pageant side of the business
Formal wear in Sheridan is not only a spring thing. The Miss Wyoming and Miss Wyoming’s Teen competitions are decided each June at the WYO Performing Arts and Education Center at 42 N. Main Street, a few doors down the same street from the boutique, and Miss Wyoming’s Teen is headquartered in Sheridan. Evening gown is part of that program. The store lists pageant and custom wear alongside bridal and prom, and it also stocks bridesmaids, mother-of-the-bride, boys’ and baby formal, shoes and accessories.

Prom appointments are not required the way private bridal appointments are, but the shop runs a prom showcase and fashion show in Sheridan each season if you would rather see the current styles moving before you try anything on.
