Prom gowns and Jim’s Formal Wear tuxes at one Front Street address in Sikeston

A Front Street shop in Missouri's Bootheel stocking Jovani, Amarra, Ava Presley and Dave & Johnny gowns, plus Jim's Formal Wear tuxedo rentals under one roof.

106 E Front St puts this shop on the old commercial spine of downtown Sikeston, a block from the 1916–17 railroad depot that now houses the Sikeston Depot Museum. A state architectural survey of the city’s historic business district singled out the N. Kingshighway and E. Front Street group — including the brick-paved segment of street itself — as eligible for the National Register. That is the setting: a short, walkable stretch of storefronts rather than a strip-mall parking lot off the interstate.

The practical thing about The Red Carpet is scope. The shop describes itself as selling bridal gowns, long and short formals, orderable bridesmaid dresses and tuxedo rentals, along with shoes, jewelry and veils. The tuxedo side runs through Jim’s Formal Wear, which lists Sikeston as an affiliated rental store. For a couple driving in from Charleston or New Madrid, that means the dress and the tux get measured, ordered and picked up at the same counter on the same trip.

Verified prom labels

  • Jovani — the brand’s own retailer page names The Red Carpet on East Front Street as its Sikeston stockist
  • Amarra
  • Ava Presley
  • Dave & Johnny

Of those four, Dave & Johnny generally sits at the lower end of the price ladder and Jovani and Amarra at the top, so the range in the store is wider than a four-name list suggests. The Facebook page reports its own price level as $$; no published price list exists, so ask on the phone before you plan a budget.

The schools it draws from

Sikeston High School, on South Pine Street, is the big one, with 944 students in 2023–24 and a red-and-black Bulldog. After that the Bootheel gets small fast. Scott County Central, out on U.S. 61 with a Sikeston mailing address, enrolled 108 students across grades 7–12. Thomas W. Kelly High sits in Benton, north up 61. New Madrid County Central, the green-and-gold Eagles, had 363 students. When a prom floor holds fifty couples, one repeated dress is visible from the door, which makes the duplicate question worth raising with whoever helps you — ask how they track what has already gone to your school.

What else is within reach

Sikeston is where I-55 meets the southern terminus of I-57 and U.S. 60, which is why it functions as the errand town for a wide stretch of Scott, New Madrid and Mississippi counties. The nearest larger prom selection is Cape Girardeau, about 34 miles and a 40-minute drive north on I-55, where The Andrew Jackson runs a downtown prom superstore. Closer in, J Marie’s Formal Affairs on West Yoakum in Chaffee also carries Jovani. So Sikeston is a choice rather than a last resort — the argument for staying in town is the one-stop dress-and-tux setup and a 20-minute drive instead of an hour round trip.

Before you go

Call (573) 471-4291 first. Directory listings for this address disagree on hours — one shows weekdays 9 to 6 with weekends closed, another a 10-to-5 day — and the store’s own Facebook page notes that summer runs by appointment. The shop also appears online under two names, The Red Carpet Formalwear and The Red Carpet Bridal and Prom, and stale directory data still attaches an earlier bridal shop to the same storefront, so a map search may not match the sign. Review coverage is real but dated: 4.8 stars across 148 reviews collected from Facebook and Google, most of them several years old, with returning customers repeatedly naming Krista.
