A prom shop on the lower level
Street level at Hello Beautiful Bridal & Formal Wear belongs to wedding gowns and mothers' dresses. Prom lives one floor down. The sisters who run the store gave that lower level its own name, The Babe Cave, its own Instagram account and its own rules, the main one being that nobody needs an appointment to shop it. Walk in with friends after school, head downstairs, and start pulling dresses.
Owner Megan Goeke and her sister, Jenna Lukasiewicz, were born and raised in Kearney and opened the shop in 2014 after years of wanting a bridal and formal store in their hometown. Jenna now manages the boutique and its alterations work, which matters a great deal on the prom side. A dress bought in the Babe Cave can be fitted in the same building, by the same team, instead of being carried across town to a seamstress.
The store publishes its price bands, which saves families an awkward conversation at the register.

The silhouettes cover fit and flare, sheath, A-line and full ball gowns, and the finishes run from sleek and simple to heavy beading. The prom page lists the labels: Clarisse, Colette, Faviana, Colors, Eureka and Poly, plus dedicated plus ranges from Faviana and Poly. Across the store, the shop advertises sizes 00 through 36 available to try on in person, so most shoppers can try on in their own size instead of guessing from a sample.

That is the store's own sign-off on its prom page, and it describes the room well. Jewelry, shoes and clutches are stocked down there too, so a shopper can match accessories to the gown while she still has it on.
The two sisters bring their own tastes to the buying. On the team page, Megan names layers as her favorite prom trend because they work on everyone, while Jenna goes for a structured corset bodice. The sisters also stock designers shoppers won't find anywhere else in central Nebraska, part of a long effort to source lines that weren't previously sold in the area.
Community is part of the pitch, too. The owners say they build partnerships aimed at supporting small businesses, emerging entrepreneurs and local students, and they describe the shop as a body-positive place where every shopper gets options for her size and shape. On the prom side, that shows up in the plus ranges and the size spread rather than in slogans.
Downtown Kearney, and who makes the trip
Hello Beautiful sits in historic downtown Kearney on The Bricks, the district of brick-paved streets lined with locally owned shops, restaurants and arts spaces. The owners pitch the location as a place to plan a whole day around, with shopping, dining and entertainment all around it.
Kearney High and Kearney Catholic students make up the core of the spring rush. The shop's pull reaches well beyond the city, though. Students from Minden, Holdrege, Amherst and Lexington all treat Kearney as their regional shopping stop, and the store's own pitch is that families in central Nebraska can shop local and skip big-city pricing. For a family that would otherwise spend a full Saturday driving to Lincoln or Omaha, that is the appeal.
The shop adds Sunday hours from January through April only, which lines up neatly with prom season. Those winter Sundays are a good window for students who work or play sports on weekday afternoons.

Does Hello Beautiful alter prom dresses?
Yes. Alterations are offered on prom gowns, and Megan's sister, Jenna Lukasiewicz, manages that side of the business. Buy early enough to leave room for a fitting or two before the dance.
Is the prom room a separate store?
It is part of the same shop, on the lower level of the building. The bridal floor is upstairs, and prom shoppers can walk right in without booking.
