A girl who buys a Sherri Hill at Jewel will not see the same gown in the same color walk out the door behind her. The store's FAQ spells out the rule for its top designers, Sherri Hill and Ashley Lauren: one dress per color, per style, and once a color sells, it is not reordered. Private-label styles can come in multiples, but the big-name gowns are effectively one of a kind on the rack.
Jewel opened in July 2025 on South 30th Street, on the south edge of Lincoln, and it was built from the start around prom, pageant, homecoming and social-occasion wear rather than bridal. Owner Emmy runs it with manager Sara, whose background includes early years at Walt Disney World, a decade in college admissions and time as a pageant director.
Walk-in prom, off the rack
Prom, homecoming, social-occasion and tuxedo shopping is walk-in. The only visit that requires a booking is the Crown Jewel pageant appointment, and the store also offers optional one-on-one homecoming styling for anyone who wants a stylist to herself. Everything else works the same way for every shopper: try it on, buy it, and take it home the same day, with no ordering and waiting.
The FAQ lays out a prom visit almost step by step, and it warns shoppers not to judge the stock by the website: only a small slice of the inventory is online; the showroom holds hundreds of additional styles.

The prep advice is specific, too. The store suggests nude, smooth undergarments for try-ons and points out that most formal dresses have built-in bra cups, so many shoppers skip the bra entirely; stylists can also show BOOMBA options for anyone who wants more lift or coverage. It also tells shoppers to come early in the season, when there are more styles, sizes and colors to choose from and more time for alterations, and to trust the stylists to pull a few surprise options.
Sizes run 000 to 24 on most in-store styles, with select styles up to 38 and special orders available in many more. The labels named across the prom, homecoming and social-occasion collections include Sherri Hill, Ashley Lauren, Jovani, Aleta and Alyce Paris, plus Sydney's Closet for extended sizes and Tease Prom. All formalwear is non-refundable, though the FAQ allows an exchange for store credit within 14 days with the original tags attached.
Pageant roots and the tux side
The pageant showroom is where Jewel shows off. Crown Jewel appointments get private access to that room and its 16-foot LED runway, one-on-one styling, and a fitting suite of their own. The store is an official Stefanie Somers earring retailer, and its pageant page notes that it styled Audrey Eckert during her year as Miss USA.
Events run through the year: trunk shows, fashion shows, designer appearances and an annual Prom Model Search, with announcements posted to the store's Instagram.

The south-side address puts Jewel close to home for Lincoln Southwest, Standing Bear, Pius X and Lincoln Christian families, and on the way in for the towns south of the city that come to Lincoln to shop: Hickman, Crete, Beatrice and the Norris district. The store also courts visitors from across southeast Nebraska and beyond, inviting families in town for a University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus visit or a state athletic event to stop by.
