Two girls from the same school in the same dress, same color, on the same night. Every prom shopper's nightmare. At An Affair to Remember, the store takes that off the table. Each prom dress it sells is registered to the buyer's school, and the shop will not sell that style in that color to anyone else from the same school. For students across Troup County and the Alabama towns just over the line, that one policy is reason enough to start here.
The shop sits on Lafayette Square in downtown LaGrange, the circle around the fountain at the center of town, in what the store calls its "Magnificent Downtown Showroom." It has served the region since 2007, and its About page describes a spacious, elegantly designed showroom for bridal, prom and special occasion needs. Its site also lists it as the only bridal boutique in LaGrange. Prom is no side business, though. Its FAQ is direct about it: "Prom is a big part of what we do."
The prom racks

It includes Sherri Hill, Jovani, Faviana, Primavera, Clarisse, Dave & Johnny, Tarik Ediz and Morilee Prom, with Alyce Paris also among the featured collections. New styles are chosen each season, and the store says every team member has a hand in its market decisions. Minimalist, couture, extravagant: those are the store's terms, and it claims all three.
Prom dresses here typically run from about $399 to $999, according to the store. That is a wide band, so it pays to tell your stylist your budget early and let her pull from the right end of the racks.
You do not need an appointment to shop for prom. The store does highly recommend one, though, and says appointments are especially helpful during the busy prom season. In the weeks before spring proms, a booked slot gets you a stylist's dedicated attention instead of a share of a packed Saturday. Booking works online or by phone.
Your date is covered in the same building. The store has rented tuxedos and outfitted men for weddings and proms since 2007, from classic tuxedos to modern suits, and its menswear page says the collection is "anything but an afterthought."

Downtown LaGrange is the natural stop for the whole county. LaGrange High School and Troup County High School are both in the city, and Callaway High School serves Hogansville at the north end of the county. Heard County High School in Franklin and Harris County High School in Hamilton are each within the half hour or so that families here will drive for a dress. Valley High School and LaFayette High School in Chambers County, Alabama, send their own shoppers across the state line.
