The finishing touch at Silver Rose Fashions is the flowers. When a customer buys her gown, the Cloquet store can have a corsage and boutonniere set made in the same colors, so the flowers in the photos match the dress rather than fighting it. That attention runs through the whole family-owned shop, which has been in business since at least 2001 and introduces itself with a short motto: "A Passion for Fashion!!"

Gowns, tuxes and the extras

Two labels lead when the shop introduces its prom side, and the lineup behind them is broad for a shop in a Carlton County town.

Shoes come from Sweetie's Shoes, and jewelry and garters round out the accessory case. A couple from Cloquet High School can sort out gown, tux, shoes and flowers with the same family behind the counter.

The racks are only part of the selection. The About page invites shoppers to browse the designers' own sites for styles, then message the store on TikTok, Instagram or Snapchat, or phone, to order. It promises easy and safe ordering, three to four day shipping on most styles, and free expert consultations, which helps when the exact color or size isn't hanging in the shop that week.

Cloquet and the schools around it

Cloquet sits on the St. Louis River where Highway 33 meets Interstate 35, west of Duluth, and that position puts a wide circle of schools within reach. Esko and Carlton are next door, Hermantown and Proctor are on the way into the Duluth area, and Duluth East and Denfeld are a quick run up the interstate. Families across northeastern Minnesota can reach the store without much planning, and the free consultations mean a first visit can be about narrowing down a style list rather than buying on the spot.

Customers reach the shop from all over the world, by the owners' account, and its photo gallery is full of prom shoppers in their finished looks. Bridesmaid and mothers' dresses from lines like Alexia, Christina Wu and Ursula are on hand too, but prom is the heart of the business. The owner, Rosa, sums up her approach this way.

Yes. The store takes orders by phone or through its TikTok, Instagram and Snapchat accounts, and says most styles ship in three to four days.

Does the shop rent tuxedos for prom?

It does both rental and retail tuxedos, through Jim's Formalwear, Savvi, Milroy's, Tip Top Tux and Nedrebo's, so a date can be fitted at the same store as the gown.
