East Tennessee, from Knox County to the Smokies
Knox County is the only place in the state with two prom racks that reach 32, both on the west side of Knoxville. The Gilded Gown's owner told the Knoxville News Sentinel in 2019 that she stocks as many size 24s as size 2s. Most shops publish a range and leave you guessing how deep each end runs. Southern Belles adds that in-stock gowns go home the day you buy.
Chattanooga and Hamilton County
Three shops, three answers. Grayce backs its in-stock range with 14 fitting rooms, and its homecoming rack can be ordered to 32. Ever After says not every gown in its online catalog is in the shop, so phone about a specific style before booking. Cheron's runs the other way. One per style keeps a twin away from the dance. It also means the gown you love exists in exactly one size, and if that size is not yours, the search moves on to the next shop.
Nashville and the counties around it
The deepest runs around Nashville sit outside Davidson County. The White Room pairs its 30 with a separate women's run. La'belle matches its 30, though a friend group there books one slot per girl. Inside the city, a Glitz special order can take up to four months.
Two Williamson County shops post no numbers. Call first. Spring Hill Formals adds advice that travels: formal gowns run small. Bring real measurements.
The Upper Cumberland
Putnam County holds the top of the state's published range. Nobody else lists 40. RSG solves a different problem: a family in Crossville or Sparta can confirm the size is hanging before anyone starts the car. If neither floor has it, order early, because Country Bumpkin puts overseas-made styles at up to 13 weeks.
Southern Middle Tennessee
Pulaski is the surprise, a four-figure stock in a small county seat, even with a ceiling at 26. Images caps each visit at six gowns, so choose them with your size in mind. Tullahoma books 45-minute fittings. Ask about sizes then.
West Tennessee
Joann's is the only published plus range out west, and it climbs as high as the Knoxville pair. Above a 24, check the South Fulton filter first, then call Martin or Jackson with a style number.
