Most formalwear shops sell you a dress and wish you luck. This one lists coaching, hair and makeup, headshots, and rhinestone jewelry alongside the gowns in its own Instagram bio — the same bio that flags 2964 Ross Clark Circle as a new store location. That mix tells you who walks in the door: competitors, not just prom dates.
The brand list backs it up. Crowning Performance appears on the official retailer locators for Ava Presley, Johnathan Kayne, and Tiffany Designs — three labels that live on prom stages and pageant stages both. Marc Defang, whose shoes are close to standard equipment on the pageant circuit, also lists the store on its own retailer page, for gowns and shoes.
Why a pageant shop makes sense in this town
Dothan runs one of the larger amateur pageant calendars in southeast Alabama, anchored by the National Peanut Festival. In October 2024, Allie Campbell — competing as Miss Dothan — won Miss National Peanut Festival at the Dothan Civic Center against 42 other contestants, and took the evening gown award on the way. The Little Miss NPF pageant that same month drew fifty girls. Titles in that system are town-based, and the towns reach well past Houston County: recent runners-up came in as Miss DeFuniak Springs, Miss Sneads, and Miss Andalusia, meaning contestants and their mothers drive to Dothan from the Florida panhandle and from Covington County to shop, fit, and get photographed.
The prom side
Dothan City Schools consolidated Dothan High and Northview in 2019. Northview’s campus became Dothan High School, which now runs grades 10 through 12 with roughly 1,450 students; the old Dothan High building became Dothan Preparatory Academy for seventh and eighth grade. That single consolidated school, plus the Houston County schools — Rehobeth, Wicksburg, Ashford, Cottonwood, and Houston County High in Columbia, about eighteen miles east — and the private campuses including Houston Academy and Providence Christian, make up the local prom calendar. It is a compact trade area with one dominant public high school, which is unusual and worth knowing: the same gown gets seen by a lot of the same people.

Ross Clark Circle is State Route 210, a beltway just under fourteen miles around that carries US 231, US 431, and US 84 through Dothan. Locals call it the Circle. Watch for 2964, in the 36301 stretch, and note that it is a small multi-tenant retail address, not a freestanding building.
