Where the shops are
Chez Lilli opened in Houma in 1964, and Terrebonne Parish has been buying prom dresses there ever since. No shop on this page has an earlier founding year on file. Only six of the listed stores have a year recorded at all. The three oldest sit in Acadiana, with Lafayette following in 1973 and Eunice in 1980. Every other dated shop opened in 2016 or later, and nothing on record lands in the 36 years between.
That gap shapes the drive. A family in Lafayette Parish or St. Landry Parish can shop a counter that has outlasted decades of proms, oil busts and changing labels. A family in Bossier, Livingston or Calcasieu is more likely to meet an owner still in her first few seasons. Both can work, once you know which one you are walking into.

All three veterans dress the date at the same counter that sells the gown, which probably explains some of their staying power. Chez Lilli's history is the hardest-won. It ran four Houma locations by the mid-1980s, then cut back to a single store in 1987 when the oil economy collapsed, and a former owner recalled that only about three of the town's bridal shops made it through.

Southwest Louisiana pairs the newest shop on the list with one that has outgrown its own name. Jordyn Kelley opened Finlyn's on US 171 in August 2026 after years working the floor of another formal shop. Across the river, Rhinestone and Vows has no founding year in our records. Families who still say Rhinestone Runway are telling you it was around before the current sign went up.

Up north, experience is often borrowed. Sloan's opened in 2016, yet its owner's mother was in the dress business first. Faulkenbery's lends its Ruston store the designer list of a company that claims the largest prom and pageant inventory in Mississippi, and Blush by Sadie C's was opened so shoppers in the northeast would not have to travel far for a gown. Central parishes such as Rapides and Natchitoches have no shop on this page yet.

Which part of the state has the prom shops with the longest track record?
Acadiana. Every shop with a founding year before 2016 sits there, in Houma, Lafayette and Eunice. For a single stop, Lafayette is the pick: Charisma sells the gown, carries tuxedos and suits for the date and alters the dress in one building, and its layaway runs on monthly payments due in full by your wear date. Start in January and the payments finish before an April prom.
Do these prom dress stores hold sample sales or mark down floor models?
None of them advertises a sample sale, so ask in person and treat any markdown as final. The older Acadiana shops are the ones whose posted policies mention sale stock. Deshotel's takes back unused regular-priced pieces within 10 days with a receipt, while sale items stay sold. Charisma lets sale merchandise go on layaway, but asks for half down instead of a third. For a lower ticket without a sale, Rhinestone and Vows starts its formal range at $40. The Mouth Of The South sells pieces from the owner's own closet, many worn once or still tagged. Online, Faulkenbery's says its designers forbid advertised prices below suggested retail, so a far cheaper listing for the same style number may be a counterfeit.
