Prince George’s County sends thousands of students to prom every spring, and the county is thin on authorized stockists of the big prom labels. The other Maryland retailers on Jovani’s own list sit in Bowie, Bethesda, Gaithersburg, Mount Airy and Annapolis. Nikki’s is the exception close to home: Suite 104 at 10539 Greenbelt Road, in the Giant-anchored Eastgate Shopping Center, carrying both Jovani and Terani Couture. The location matters more here than the storefront does. DuVal High School sits about a mile west on Good Luck Road, with roughly 2,500 students in grades 9 through 12. Greenbelt Road (MD 193) runs west past Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt and on toward College Park and Langley Park, and east toward Glenn Dale and Kettering. Eastgate is a short hop from both the Baltimore-Washington Parkway and the Capital Beltway, which is how shoppers from Bowie, New Carrollton, Seabrook and Riverdale reach it. It is a 134,000-square-foot strip center in Prince George’s County, not a mall — the neighbors are a Giant, a pediatric dentist, a Mathnasium, a couple of fast-food pads.
Getting there without a car
This is one of the few dress shops in the county reachable on transit. Prince George’s County TheBus Route 16 runs between the Greenbelt and New Carrollton Metro stations by way of Greenbelt Road, Good Luck Road and Riverdale Road, and the county describes the route as serving the retail along Greenbelt Road — which is this stretch of it. Parking at Eastgate is a shared surface lot in front of the grocery store, so it is free and it is not the reason a trip goes badly.
Bridal, prom and alterations in one suite
This is not a prom-only store. Its own site describes bridal gowns, formal wear including tuxedos, and accessories such as veils and headpieces, and it keeps a separate page for alterations; the Facebook page is categorized as a sewing and alterations service. Morilee’s dealer locator lists the shop as well, for wedding, bridesmaid and prom dresses. The practical effect is that the fitting and the hemming happen in the same room, which counts for a lot in April when a gown has to come in twice before a Saturday. Facebook lists the price range as “$$”.

- Whether Jovani and Terani gowns are on the racks now, and in which sizes — brand authorization is not the same as current inventory
- Appointment or walk-in, particularly on a Saturday in March
- Alterations turnaround and cost, since the same shop does the work
- Whether they record which dress went to which school, if that matters to your group
