Most of the year this is a by-appointment shop. Brides, bridesmaids and mothers book a slot by texting (712) 229-0638, and the store keeps the floor private for one party at a time. From December through April, that rule is suspended for prom shoppers: the store’s own page says prom shopping in those months does not require an appointment. If you are driving in from Marcus or Holstein on a Saturday morning, that is the practical difference between planning a week ahead and just going.
The prom labels verified at this address are Alyce Paris, Clarisse and Dave & Johnny — all three list the Cherokee store on their own retailer locators. Tuxedos are handled in the same building, since the shop is an affiliated Jim’s Formal Wear location, so a couple can settle the dress and the rental in one trip instead of two.
Who actually shops here
Cherokee is the county seat of Cherokee County in northwest Iowa, a town of 5,199 people at the 2020 census, and the store is at 219 W Willow St. Washington High School — the Braves, roughly 366 students across grades nine through twelve — is on West Bluff Street on the other side of town. A high school that size does not support a formalwear store by itself, and this one does not depend on it. The trade area is a ring of small districts within half an hour: Aurelia about seven miles east, Alta and Marcus around fifteen, Paullina and Holstein under twenty, Storm Lake and its considerably larger student body closer to twenty-five.
The nearest real alternative is Sioux City, which the store’s own listing puts at 60 miles away. For a junior in Paullina or Correctionville, that is an hour down and an hour back, and it is why a shop in a town of five thousand carries three national prom houses at once. There is no mall in Cherokee. The trip is the store and whatever else you already had downtown.
Before you drive
Listed hours run Tuesday through Friday, 10 to 5, with a short Saturday closing at 2, and Sunday and Monday closed. Older listings show a later Wednesday and a 9 a.m. Saturday open, so the hours are not settled across the internet — worth a text if you are coming from an hour out.
One more thing that will matter if you are watching for a sign: the same address runs Unhinged Clothing Co., the shop’s clothing side, and at least one designer’s store locator now files the Cherokee location under the Unhinged name rather than Sequins. Same storefront, same block.
