The mail says Englishtown 07726. The storefront is in Manalapan Township, in the Galleria Shopping Center on the northbound side of Route 9, in the same strip as a coal-fired pizza place, a Music & Arts and a barbershop. Two things are worth knowing before anyone drives out here: every visit is by appointment, and prom is not its own department.
Jovani’s own retailer pages put four of its stores in Manalapan Township alone, all on U.S. 9 — Hearts for You plus Castle Couture, Rhona’s and Lola’s. Terani Couture lists it too. On the shop’s own designer list, though, Jovani and Terani are filed under mother of the bride and groom, alongside Montage by Mon Cheri, Marsoni, Ivonne D and MGNY. The bridal side carries Essense of Australia, Maggie Sottero, Stella York, Martina Liana, Sottero & Midgley and Enzoani. So the gowns a junior or senior is after do hang here, on the evening-wear side of a wedding store, not in a prom room with a wall of stock sizes.
What appointment-only actually means for a prom trip
This is the part that separates Hearts for You from the walk-in prom stores farther down Route 9. From the store’s own policy pages:
- Appointments are required for all customers, not just brides.
- Mother of the bride and bridesmaid appointments run 60 minutes; bridal runs 90; flower girl, 30. There is no prom slot on the list, so say on the phone what the dress is for.
- Children are not permitted at appointments, and no food or drink is allowed in the store.
- Bridal appointments carry a $100 card hold charged only for no-shows or late cancellations.
- Closed Mondays. Thursday is the only evening open past 6, until 8. Open Sundays 11 to 5.
A Thursday-after-school or Sunday-afternoon appointment is the realistic window for a student, and one hour with a stylist in a private fitting room is a different experience from an afternoon of pulling racks yourself. Decide which one you want before you book.
Order times run long here
The shop’s FAQ puts special orders for mother-of-the-bride and bridesmaid dresses at roughly three to five months. That is a bridal timeline, not a prom-store timeline. New Jersey proms cluster in May and into the first week of June, later than proms in the South, so a special order out of the evening department means shopping before the winter holidays. If it is already March, the first question to ask is what can be bought off the floor and altered.
The schools in range
This corner of Monmouth County is dense with juniors and seniors. The Freehold Regional High School District runs its offices from Pine Street in Englishtown and enrolls about 10,000 students across six high schools: Manalapan, Marlboro, Freehold Township, Freehold Borough, Colts Neck and Howell. Manalapan High on Church Lane and Marlboro High each hold roughly 1,700 students, and Manalapan’s own mailing address is Englishtown, a few minutes off the same highway. Old Bridge and Monroe are a short run north on Route 9.
That highway is the trip’s only real complication. A leasing sheet for the Galleria puts traffic past the plaza at about 60,000 vehicles a day, and the jughandles on this stretch mean a missed entrance costs several minutes. Get the address right — 100 Route 9 North, not the southbound side, where several of the other formalwear shops sit.
Hearts for You is mother-daughter owned; the About page signs off from Lucy and Nicole. It reads as a bridal room that will dress a prom customer out of its Jovani and Terani stock, rather than a prom store that also does weddings. For a shopper who wants one stylist, one appointment and a designer gown, that is the appeal. For one who wants to browse 400 dresses unsupervised on a Saturday, the same road has other options.
