NYC, borough by borough
Brooklyn and Staten Island lean on booked, stylist-led visits, while Queens shops tend to dress the whole couple and fit the date's tux at the same counter as the gown. The Bronx has no listed shop yet.
Long Island, Nassau to Suffolk
From Floral Park out to Farmingdale, none of these four shops requires a booking. Head east and that flips. Omnibus and Dress Gala book every visit, and Dress Gala charges the card it holds if you cancel inside 24 hours.
Westchester and the Hudson Valley
Westchester leans on booked visits, though All About the Dress takes walk-ins. Harriman asks for 48 hours' notice to cancel or change a visit, and a no-show or late change means a $35 deposit to rebook. The two shops at Palisades Center in West Nyack are the release valve, and Glamour Couture's website even shows what is physically hanging there before anyone gets in the car.
The Capital Region
No other region is this easy on short notice. Both Latham shops sit on the same stretch of Route 9, though in prom season Fancy Schmancy wants every prom shopper accompanied by an adult 21 or older.
Syracuse, Utica and Central New York
Walk-ins work across this corridor. At Boom Babies a booked slot jumps the line, and a staff member told NCC News that spring Saturdays can mean 40-plus people waiting on fitting rooms. Go on a weekday.
The Southern Tier
Yes, the Binghamton listing is a coffee and gift shop, and WBNG counted more than 700 dresses there. Vestal is the opposite trip, booked ahead with a $25 fee for a late cancellation.
Buffalo, Rochester and Western New York
Most of these shops book. Bella You is the one to walk into: sign in at the counter, and you get roughly 30 minutes in the dressing room.
The North Country
It is the only listed shop this far north, and Canadian shoppers drive down for it. Book in winter.
