Most prom stores send you somewhere else to get the dress taken in. This one is a tailor shop that added a dress floor. The listing at 4542 W Kennedy Blvd has operated for years as Dina’s Tailor and Alterations, and its reviews are almost entirely about needle work — hems, wedding gowns, mother-of-the-bride dresses, a tuxedo zipper replaced in two days when a dry cleaner would have had to send it out. One customer wrote that during Hurricane Milton, Dina took her wedding dress home to keep it safe. The boutique side is newer; the shop’s own website still calls it Tampa’s newest formalwear boutique.
That matters more here than it would elsewhere, because this address is not alone. The 4500 block of West Kennedy is a dress corridor. David’s Bridal is directly across the street at 4503. The Bridal Outlet of Tampa Bay shares the same block at 4536. Diana’s Bridal sits a few blocks east at 4241, and Cache The House of Dresses is also on West Kennedy. A shopper can park once and walk into four stores. What separates Dina’s from its neighbors is that the fitting and the finishing happen under the same roof, by the people who do alterations as their primary business.
What’s on the racks
Jovani and Mac Duggal both list this store on their official retailer locators. Those are the two labels that show up in most American prom photos — Jovani for beaded and fitted, Mac Duggal for the sequin and cape work. Jovani’s Florida retailer page names four Tampa stores, and Dina’s is one of them. Beyond prom, the shop describes mother-of-the-bride gowns and tuxedos alongside the alterations work.
Who shops here
Jefferson High School is roughly a mile north, at 4401 W Cypress St, with about 1,300 students. From this block the rest of the school-age map is close: Plant and Robinson on the South Tampa side, Jesuit and Tampa Catholic north of Kimberly, Academy of the Holy Names on Bayshore, Blake’s arts students downtown. Nobody in that group is driving more than fifteen or twenty minutes to get here, which is unusual — a lot of Florida families make a trip of prom shopping. Hillsborough proms land in the spring well before the school year ends in late May, so the shopping window opens earlier than it does up north.
The business runs in Spanish as well as English. Its Facebook page and Yelp listing are both written that way, which is a plain fact of doing formalwear on this side of Tampa, near West Tampa and Town ’N’ Country.
Before you drive over
The store is on the north side of Kennedy Boulevard — State Road 60 — between Dale Mabry Highway and Westshore Boulevard, with Westshore Plaza a short run west on the same road. Two practical notes:
- Listings show weekday hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with Saturday and Sunday closed. For a prom shopper that means a school-day or after-work trip. Call (813) 839-4203 first; weekend availability during prom season is exactly the kind of thing a small shop changes without updating a listing.
- Ask about alterations timing when you buy, not after. The alterations side is a separate stream of work with its own queue, and prom season overlaps with wedding season here.
