Almost everything that happens at 133 N. Michigan St. is wedding business. Belle Amour opened in the fall of 2012 under Michelle McCaulla, who studied fashion merchandising and design before starting the shop, and the roughly 4,000 square feet of downtown showroom is organized around bridal: more than 200 gowns in the orderable collection, over 100 off-the-rack in the Belle Amour Loft, and more than 300 bridesmaid styles.
Prom fits into that in a narrow, specific way. The store is a stocking retailer for Jovani and Terani, two houses that make prom and evening gowns, and on Belle Amour’s own site the Jovani styles live in the mother-of-the-bride and social-occasion collection, filed by evening season rather than under a prom heading. There is no prom room and no wall of 400 dresses. What there is: two designer labels a stylist can order from, and a line on every product page saying not every gown is in the boutique and to call about a specific style.
That shapes the visit more than anything else on this page. Belle Amour requires appointments and blocks out an hour and a half for a gown appointment; the shop says it will try to help walk-ins but cannot promise an open fitting room or an available stylist. So the practical move is to find the Jovani or Terani style number first, then call (419) 244-1812 and ask whether that dress, or anything close to it, is on the floor to try on. A same-day, walk-in, take-it-home-tonight prom trip is not what this store is set up to do.
Hours are worth checking before the drive. Listings put the shop closed Sunday and Monday, with midday openings Tuesday through Friday, evening hours on Tuesday and Thursday, and Saturday 10 to 4. One designer locator shows an 11 a.m. opening instead of noon, so confirm by phone rather than trusting a listing.
Where this sits in Toledo prom shopping
The range in this city is wide. At one end, the Start High School DECA fashion marketing program ran a community prom dress sale in the school’s front office lobby over a weekend in late March 2025, sizes 1 through 30, every dress long or short priced at $25, with what was left sold by appointment in Room 107 through May 2 — a fair marker for when area proms actually land. At the other end, Atlas Bridal Shop out on Monroe Street carries prom labels like Amarra and Faviana in quantity. Belle Amour is neither of those things. It is a designer bridal boutique that holds two prom-capable lines and works by appointment.
Getting there
This is downtown, not a mall. The shop is a couple of blocks along Michigan Street from the main library at 325 N. Michigan, in the same street grid as Fifth Third Field and the Warehouse District, which means metered blocks and garages rather than a parking lot outside the door. Belle Amour names Perrysburg, Sylvania, Maumee, Oregon, Bowling Green, and Findlay among the communities it serves, along with southeast Michigan across the state line north of the city — a normal trade area for a formalwear shop in this corner of Ohio, and one where a downtown address is a deliberate trip rather than a stop on the way somewhere else.
Two things to know before you call: the store publishes no prices for its Jovani or Terani styles, and its bridal gowns run $1,499 to $4,000 with the off-the-rack Loft at $699 to $2,000. That is a designer-tier shop, so ask about the price of a prom style on the phone rather than assuming.
