The move to Austin followed a 2011 tornado that wiped out the company's Oklahoma warehouses and offices, according to a 2018 Oklahoma Magazine profile. That profile put the label in more than 1,000 stores in 30 countries. In our listings the footprint leans South: Florida and Texas lead, with Pennsylvania, Georgia and Alabama next.
Why most shoppers size up in Sherri Hill
Forget the size on your jeans. Sherri Hill cuts to formal-wear sizing, and the brand says "most people wear one to two sizes larger in Sherri Hill." So try it on at the shop and let the staff tell you which size to order. Caught between two? Take the larger one. A tailor can take in the rest.
The size run goes from 000 to 26, but that is the outer limit, not the norm. In the brand's own product data, about half of its prom styles stop at 18 and more than a quarter stop at 14. Only about one in five goes all the way to 26. There is no separate plus-size line, so a shopper in a larger size is choosing from a smaller slice of the same racks. The brand also warns that stores don't carry every size, so call ahead and ask which styles the shop can get in yours.
Plan on a hem. Floor-length gowns "are usually hemmed to your height and the shoes you'll wear," the brand says, and beyond that, "every gown is constructed differently, so what can be altered depends on the individual dress." Bring your prom shoes to the first fitting.

Corsets, hot-fix stones and a $698 middle
In the brand's words, the line is built on "fashion-forward silhouettes, intricate beadwork, and fabrics chosen for the way they catch the light." Corset bodices run all through it, along with lace, chiffon, stretch satin and hot-fix stones. The two best sellers of the last two seasons were both corsets: a fitted stretch-satin gown, style 56161, in 2024, and a floral-print ball gown, style 57250, in 2025. "We can make a woman's body look fabulous!" Hill told Daily Front Row in 2015. That is the pitch.
The brand's suggested prices for prom run $399 to $1,999, and most styles land between about $550 and $1,050. Two big authorized sellers agree on the middle. In October 2026 the first page of Sherri Hill gowns at each had a median of $698. Couture Candy's ran $450 to $1,298. Prom Headquarters' looked like this:

Couture is a different budget. Couture Candy lists one Sherri Hill couture gown, style 67165, at $4,598, far past the prom range. If a gown on your phone is fully beaded edge to edge, ask whether it belongs to the couture collection before you fall for it.
Buying from a Sherri Hill shop
Sherri Hill sells only through authorized retailers. Any of them can be found on the brand's store finder, and that list is the whole test: in the brand's words, "a seller that is not listed there is not an authorized Sherri Hill retailer."
Returns belong to the shop. Sherri Hill's FAQ says its retailers' return policies vary, so get the store's rules in writing before you pay a deposit. Two more things to know before you go. The company says its retailers may not rent the gowns, so plan to buy. And custom made-to-measure is rare: only a select few retailers offer it, and they are among the couture shops on the store finder.
Telling a real Sherri Hill from a dupe
The brand is plain about the risk: counterfeits are common on unauthorized websites and social media marketplaces. A "dupe" or "inspired by" dress is not a Sherri Hill, whatever the listing shows. A real Sherri Hill photo at a price far below the suggested range is, in the brand's word, a red flag. Report a fake to.

The company does go after fake sellers. In 2012 a federal court in New York awarded it a $5 million default judgment against online counterfeiters and transferred eleven fake sites, SherriHillPromDresses.com among them, to the company. In March 2026 it filed a new federal suit accusing two online shops of using and altering its photos; that case is pending. The lesson for shoppers is the same either way. A listing that uses Sherri Hill's own photos proves nothing about the dress that ships.

Those exclusive claims have a basis. The company says it grants territorial exclusivity to its boutiques, which is why one town can have a single Sherri Hill seller while the next town over has none. If the nearest shop is a drive, it may still be the only one for a while.

Early matters more with this label than most, because one dress can take over a season. Style 57250, the floral corset ball gown, went viral on TikTok in October 2024, before it had even reached stores, when a model's video drew 8.9 million views, the New York Post reported. A Sherri Hill spokesperson called it the best-selling prom dress of the year, with "tens of thousands" sold. It listed at $750 in sizes 000 to 26. "We can't keep it in stock," one retailer told the Post, and Z Couture in Austin was taking preorders in January for April delivery. If a new style has caught your eye, ask your shop in the fall when its spring order lands, and order early.
Kendall Jenner's first runway, and other Sherri Hill firsts
The celebrity record starts on the runway. Kendall Jenner's first show was Sherri Hill's debut at New York Fashion Week in 2011, W magazine reported, and she came back two years later with Kylie. Daily Front Row wrote in 2015 that Selena Gomez, Kendall and Kylie Jenner and Bella Thorne had all worn Hill's designs. The brand also names Zendaya, Ariana Grande and Carrie Underwood among its wearers. It says the Spring 2027 show in September 2026 was its 21st at New York Fashion Week.
Pageants are the other stage. In August 2018, Miss America named Sherri Hill its official gown provider in a three-year deal running to the organization's 100th anniversary. It covered Cara Mund's gowns for the 2018 competition and the gowns worn by the next three Miss Americas during their year of service. The brand dates the partnership to 2017, and it no longer runs. Sherri Hill also says it was Miss USA's official fashion sponsor in 2012, and it names Olivia Culpo and Cheslie Kryst among the titleholders who wore its gowns.
One more first: in 2013 Sadie Robertson showed a prom collection she co-designed with Sherri Hill, "Live Original by Sherri Hill," at New York Fashion Week. It was a one-time collaboration, not a standing line.
